Lorena Ochoa won her 27th LPGA Tour victory on the strength of her Ping golf clubs, according to Golf Digest.Here’s what the top-ranked player in women’s golf had in her bag last week as she breezed to a four-stroke victory at the 2009 Navistar LPGA Classic:
- Driver: Ping 115, 8 degrees
- 3-wood: Ping G10, 15.5 degrees
- Hybrid: Ping Rapture V2, 20 degrees
- Irons (4-5): Ping S58
- Irons (6-PW): Ping S57
- Wedges: Ping Tour W (50, 54, 58 degrees)
- Putter: Ping Redwood Piper S
Ochoa also powered Callaway Tour i golf balls around the 6,460-yard Senator course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Capitol Hill complex in Prattville, AL.
Crowded calendar. It looks as if Ochoa and her LPGA colleagues may have more tournaments to play in 2010 than expected.
“We’re pleased with the progress that we’re making on the 2010 calendar, and hope that when we announce the full schedule in November at the LPGA Tour Championship that we’ll be looking at a solid tournament schedule, somewhere in the 23-25 tournament range,” LPGA spokesperson David Higdon tells Boston Golf Examiner. “We also are optimistic that we’ll find a sponsor for the LPGA Championship, as 2010 will be the first year that we own and run our own major.”
That’s good news for the women’s professional golf tour, which has been losing sponsors at a steady clip. With the recent contract extensions by Navistar and State Farm and the losses of Michelob and Samsung as sponsors, the LPGA has 18 announced tour dates on the 2010 calendar.
