Site of 2016 Olympics announced - How will it effect golf?

Rio de Janeiro has been announced as the winning city for the 2016 Summer Olympics, beating out Chicago, Madrid, and Tokyo. This will be the first Olympics ever held in South America.
In shocking fashion, Chicago was knocked out in the first round of voting, despite the fact that President Obama traveled to Denmark for the final presentation given to the International Olympic Committee. Chicago was felt by many as the strong favorite to win the bid as Michelle Obama, celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, and former olympians met with IOC members for much of the week leading up to the vote. It was felt that the Presidents appearance could put Chicago over the top for receiving the bid.

The visit by the President, however, could have backfired. Former IOC member Kai Holm said his quick visit may have counted against him. His stopover was "too business like" and "It could be that some IOC members see it as a lack of respect," said Holm.
Kevan Gosper, Senior Australian IOC member was shocked by the outcome and was worried that the quick exit by Chicago could do "untold damage" to relations between the IOC and the U.S. Olympic committee. "To have the president of the United States and his wife personally appear, then this should happen in the first round is awful and totally undeserving," he said.
In September, Golf was announced as one of the new sports to be added for the 2016 Olympics and many were ecstatic about the possibility of seeing this in Chicago, as Cog Hill was mentioned as a possible venue. Rio de Janeiro is certainly not a famous location for golf and according to this article, there are only two quality golf courses, Gavea golf and country club, and Itanhanga golf club.
Having golf in the Olympics for the first time will be a huge event with the top stars in the world playing. It will certainly be interesting to see how this story unfolds.
