Viera High hosts regional golf today at two locations

Both Viera High golf teams host Region 6 tournaments today within a few miles of the school -- the boys at Duran Golf Club and the girls at Suntree Country Club. Both were district champions last week and last year, but it was the girls who advanced to last year's state tournament.
For the boys to make this their first season in the state field, they will have to finish as one of the top two teams in today's nine-team regional that includes fellow district champions Martin County and Jupiter. The Melbourne boys also remain alive, as are the Merritt Island girls.
Five local individual qualifiers will compete: Caleb Jenkins of Merritt Island Christian, Will Dawson of West Shore and Matt Moser of Titusville in 1A; Josh Ramnath of Bayside and C.J. Watson of Merritt Island.
Brevard's Class 1A teams will play in Region 4 tournaments today for their state bids, but those will be in the Orlando area, the boys -- Astronaut, Holy Trinity and Cocoa Beach -- today at Tuscawilla Country Club and the girls -- Cocoa Beach, Melbourne Central Catholic and Rockledge -- on Tuesday at West Orange Country Club.
Local girls individual qualifiers were in 1A, Sara Chinoy of West Shore, Rita Ling of Edgewood and Cara Kendall of Space Coast; in 2A, Shea Trower of Eau Gallie and Peeraya Sawangkum of Palm Bay.
