Tiger Woods broke the course record at Cog Hill with a 9-under-par 62, his best round of the year, and surged to a seven-shot lead in the BMW Championship in Lemont, Ill.
Woods is at 16-under 197 for his largest lead on the PGA Tour since he was eight shots in front in the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines early last year.
He will play in the final pairing Sunday with Brandt Snedeker, who had a 66. Marc Leishman had a 68 and joined Snedeker at 9-under 204. . . .
Song-Hee Kim leads the LPGA Tour's NW Arkansas Championship by two strokes over Angela Stanford heading into the final round in Rogers, Ark. Kim shot a 3-under 68 and is at 9 under par for the tournament. Stanford shot a 69. Na Yeon Choi shot a 65 for the day's low round and was tied for third with two other players, a stroke behind Stanford. . . .
In Ardmore, Pa., the United States has taken an 8-4 lead over Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup behind Rickie Fowler's strong play. Fowler enjoyed two lopsided victories Saturday and the Americans won three singles matches and halved four others at Merion Golf Club.
Four alternate-shot matches and 10 singles are scheduled for Sunday. The United States leads the series, 33-7-1. . . .
Peter Hanson of Sweden leads three players by one stroke at the European Tour's Mercedes-Benz Championship after shooting a 5-under 67 in the third round in Cologne, Germany. Hanson is at 11-under 205. Simon Dyson of England (68), Soren Hansen of Denmark (70) and James Kingston of South Africa (70) are at 206.
